Seed harvest

On their way from the garden to the Seed House, the seeds pass through several stations. After being picked, they are threshed, cleaned, dried, sorted, labeled, then filled into storage jars and stored.

In seed cultivation, each plant family, each species has its own needs. There are hermaphroditic, monoecious, dioecious, annual, biennial, perennial, self-pollinating, insect or wind-pollinated plants. All these characteristics are taken into account in the planning and later respected in the garden.

This broad experiential knowledge used to be passed down from generation to generation. Nowadays, there are also books and video tutorials for those interested. We document our work steps with photographs and share them on our blog. On our farm, we also gladly share our practical knowledge in person.
