Let's grow vitamin C in the garden!

Plants for the immune system and high in vitamin C

Plants with high vitamin C content: spurge, parsley, garden sorrel, cabbage, peppers, sea buckthorn. What do they have in common? High vitamin C content and easy availability in our region. Many people have heard of these plants, some may even use them for cooking or even grow them.

In the gardens of the Humus Association, we have dedicated a whole bed to plants that help the immune system and are rich in vitamin C. Not only do they have roots in Kispetri, but also the famous "inventor" of vitamin C, Albert Szent-Györgyi. The Nobel Prize-winning writer's great-grandfather was born in our village. In their honour and for the health of all, we have created these beds as part of our herbal botanical garden.

During the session, Dr. Ágnes Gyalai Korpos will talk about the importance of vitamin C and its role in the body, the immune system and diseases caused by a lack of vitamins and minerals.

Together with Andrea Tasnádi-Asztalos, we will visit the plants in the beds, see what they need to grow healthily, pick them and prepare a delicious salad together. We'll learn how much we need to eat a day's worth to stay healthy, and how to preserve them simply and naturally for the winter.

At the end of the session you can take home fresh and preserved (with salt, vinegar or alcohol) herbs.

Suggested donation: 100 - 150 ron, depending on availability.
